May I use a regular bottle for storing holy water?

There is no rule about what kind of bottle to be used to store Holy Water; the only thing that matters is the bottle’s cleanliness. Also, for the sacramental to be used reverently and prayerfully. Sometimes an ordinary container can be more fitting than a cheap plastic bottle with ‘holy water’ written on it.

There are only rules when it comes to liturgical celebrations. Parishes use sprinklers and special vessels for storage, but those are not for domestic use. You could also buy a small Holy Water font for your doorway so it will be easy to bless yourself and your children.

Remember to use a simple prayer, like this one below:

“By this holy water and by thy precious Blood, wash away my sins, oh Lord.”

“From long experience, I have learned that there is nothing like holy water to put devils to flight and prevent them from coming back again. They also flee from the Cross, but return; so holy water must have great virtue. For my own part, whenever I take it, my soul feels a particular and most notable consolation.”
